While the continuation of the ongoing IPL 2025 is in serious doubt due to the mounting border tension between India and Pakistan, the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is on track to go ahead as scheduled.
Reports stated that IPL 2025 could be postponed after the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off on Thursday (May 8) due to security reasons. The decision to stop the game was taken during the 11th over of Punjab Kings' innings as the players were asked to leave the field, while the fans were asked to vacate the stadium.
"Yes, the match has been called off as a precautionary step, because there are some incidents which happened in Jammu, I believe," said IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.
IPL 2025 to continue:
Immediately after the game between Punjab and Delhi was called off, the IPL Governing Council called an emergency meeting. Media reports also stated that the IPL teams were in panic and it could lead to the postponement of IPL 2025.
However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed that no decision on the postponement of the tournament has been taken. Dhumal said that the BCCI is yet to receive any directive from the government so far.
"We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind," Dhumal told PTI.
Speaking further, Dhumal also confirmed that the match between Lucknow and Bengaluru would go ahead on Friday (May 9). The match is scheduled to be played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. However, Dhumal also stated that things could change in the coming hours as 'it is an evolving situation'.
"Yes it is on as of now but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind," said Dhumal.
Meanwhile, the players of Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will be evacuated from Dharamsala through a special train. The train will leave from Pathankot and will take the players, their family members and the support staff of both the teams to Delhi. The teams will travel to Pathankot by road.
The BCCI took the decision because the Dharamsala airport along with the nearby airports are closed due as part of precautionary measures.
