Meanwhile, the legendary South African cricketer and former RCB batter AB de Villiers has addressed the criticism Virat Kohli faced in the IPL last year despite single-handedly carrying RCB’s batting line-up when others weren’t delivering and taking the team to the playoffs.
Scrutiny over Virat’s strike rate was absolutely ridiculous: AB de Villiers
The Proteas legend dismissed criticism of Virat Kohli’s strike rate, saying he played exactly as the team needed. De Villers explained that the RCB icon adapts based on the situation, taking risks when he trusts his partner and anchoring the innings when necessary.
AB de Villiers said on JioHotStar, “The scrutiny over Virat’s strike rate was absolutely ridiculous. He had done exactly what his team needed from him. It’s all about the situation. When he has someone at the other end he trusts, you see him experiment and play with more freedom.”
The legendary batter signed off by saying, “Unlike someone like Fraser McGurk for Delhi Capitals, Virat had the responsibility of holding the innings together.”
