Former Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade will be Gujarat Titans' assistant coach for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The announcement was made by Gujarat Titans through their social media handle.
Matthew Wade has served as a player for the Titans for two IPL seasons in 2022 and 2024. The wicketkeeper-batter played two matches in 2024 but didn't make a significant impact with the bat.
Matthew Wade joins Gujarat Titans as assistant coach
Gujarat Titans made Matthew Wade's appointment as their assistant coach for IPL 2025 official through their social media handle just days before the beginning of a new IPL season. The franchise welcomes Wade back into their dressing room but for a different role this time.

Wade will join the head coach Ashish Nehra, batting coach Parthiv Patel, assistant coaches Aashish Kapoor, and Narender Negi in the coaching set-up.
Matthew Wade's IPL career
Wade played most of his IPL matches for Gujarat Titans. He has played 15 matches in the IPL but doesn't boast a great record. He scored 183 runs at an average of 13.07 and a strike rate of 103.39.
Out of these 15 matches, Wade has played 12 matches for Gujarat Titans. All these 12 matches came in 2022 and 2024 combined. He played his other three games for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) way back in 2011.
Wade played the most no. of matches in an IPL season in 2022 when he played 10 matches for the Gujarat Titans. He scored 157 runs that season at an average of 15.70 and a strike rate of 113.77. It was Titans' first ever IPL season and they emerged as the winners under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.
Matthew Wade T20I career
Wade didn't put up his name for the IPL 2025 mega auction as he had announced his retirement from international cricket. The wicketkeeper-batter remained a key part of Australia's T20I team for a long time.
He scored 1202 runs in 92 matches at an average of 26.13 and a strike rate of 134.15. Most of his runs came while batting down the order as he specialised in finishing games with some quick runs in the end.
Wade played a key role in Australia's T20 World Cup 2021 title win. He played a stunning knock of 41 from just 17 balls against Pakistan to take Australia to the final. He smashed 2 fours and 4 sixes during his knock.
The IPL 2025 season will begin on March 22 with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Gujarat Titans will start their campaign on March 25 against Punjab Kings at Ahmedabad. They finished eighth last season and will be looking to improve after two impressive seasons in 2022 and 2023.
