IPL 2025: MS Dhoni set to be CSK's 'Impact Player' next season

Veteran Chennai Super Kings player MS Dhoni is all set to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. As per the reports in My Khel, it is learned that the keeper-batter has been giving his best to stay fit for the next edition of the league.

The reports claimed that MS Dhoni is also all set to be retained by the Chennai Super Kings as the uncapped player. Although the franchise is yet to confirm its retention list, it is strongly believed that the keeper-batter will be part of the team next year as a player.

MS Dhoni to play as an Impact Player in the upcoming season

It is also learned that Dhoni is putting in every effort to be ready for the IPL 2025. The reports claimed that the keeper-batter has been training at the JSCA training center in Ranchi and is currently completely fit. He also soon will be confirming his availability to the franchise.

The reports in My Khel also mentioned that even though MS Dhoni underwent knee surgery he is keen to play for the team. But there is a strong chance that he might play a few matches as an Impact Player in the upcoming season. He is unlikely to keep wickets and will be playing as a batter only because of his age and injury issues.

MS Dhoni to tell CSK about his availability before 31st October

Recently Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan also talked about the possibility of MS Dhoni playing the IPL 2025. He mentioned that the keeper-batter hasn't spoken to them as yet but has told them that he will be telling them before 31st October.

It is almost confirmed that if MS Dhoni plays in the IPL 2025, he will be retained as the uncapped player. This comes after BCCI reintroduced the uncapped player rule. He retired from international cricket in 2019 and this allows him to be placed as an uncapped player as per the latest IPL rules.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube are set to be retained by CSK

Dhoni was part of Chennai Super Kings for all the games in the last season. Even though he was battling a knee issue, he entertained the crowd big time with his power-hitting. He scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 220, this all came when he batted down the order.

Dhoni also stepped down as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. Ruturaj Gaikwad then took over the leadership. The young batter did a decent job but couldn't take the team to the playoffs.

The reports also claimed that apart from Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be on the retention list and will be captaining the team. Alongside him, Matheesha Pathirana, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube are set to extend his stay at the franchise as well. It remains to be seen apart from these players who the franchise will be targeted at the IPL 2025 auction.
