Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to retain MS Dhoni under the uncapped category ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that the franchise will be retaining Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja as well.

The uncapped player rule was one of the policies that BCCI announced in the retention list for the IPL 2025 auction. It's fair to say that the rule was reintroduced so that Chennai Super Kings can retain MS Dhoni and the biggest name in Indian cricket can have a go for one more season.

MS Dhoni is all set to be retained by Chennai Super Kings at INR 4 crore

The rule allows the team to retain an Indian player who hasn't played international cricket for five years in the uncapped category. Also, the player cannot be retained at more than INR 4 crore. This is a tailor-made situation now for CSK, as it will allow them to have Dhoni without even risking the future of the team.

Hence, MS Dhoni is now all set to be retained by Chennai Super Kings at INR 4 crore in the uncapped player category. The other two big retentions for the Chennai Super Kings heading into the IPL 2025 are likely to be Ruturaj Gaikwad and premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

MS Dhoni was battling a knee issue during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He couldn't bat due to the injury and hence came to bat only in the last few overs, playing blazing cameos. He aggregated 161 runs in 14 matches and scored at a strike rate of 220.25. He also has guided the team to the five titles in the league.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue as the captain of the team

The reports claimed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue as the captain of the team. He took over the leadership of the side after MS Dhoni decided to step down as the leader ahead of the IPL 2024. The young batter did a decent job but couldn't take the team to the playoffs.

Although there is no confirmation about the retention prices of Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad it is understood that CSK could offer the same amount of money to both the stars. The reports also claimed that the franchise is keen to retain Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube and Sri Lanka National Cricket Team pacer Matheesha Pathirana.

Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana are likely to be retained as well

Shivam Dube has been one of the backbones for the Chennai Super Kings in the middle order. The left-hander has been used as a floater by the team, and his ability to hit big sixes has turned many games in favor of Chennai Super Kings over the last few years.

On the other hand, Matheesha Pathirana has been amongst the top death bowlers in the IPL. He joined Chennai Super Kings in 2022 and since then has been an integral part of the team. He was one of the main reasons behind the win of the team in 2023.

In the edition, picked 19 wickets at an average of under 20 and an economy of 8.01 in 12 outings. He helped his team win the games from tough situations and took them to victory. He was also impressive for the side in 2024, picking 13 wickets in 6 games.
