MS Dhoni's availability for the IPL 2025 season is still under question as the legendary CSK skipper is yet to decide on his Indian Premier League (IPL) future. It is believed that Dhoni hasn't informed the CSK management about his decision yet.
While Dhoni had already stepped down from the captaincy before the last IPL season, he is still an active player in the league. However, at 43, it is not certain how many days he will be there playing for his franchise.

MS Dhoni's injury issues
Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket but is still playing in the IPL. Since the past few seasons, he has been constantly struggling with various injuries. He suffered a knee injury during the IPL 2023 season and also had surgery soon after CSK won the IPL title that year.
Ruturaj Gaikwad replaced him as CSK's new captain this season. Dhoni appeared to be uncomfortable in IPL 2024 as well and played throughout the season in pain and could not run for too long. However, with Ruturaj being a young captain, Dhoni decided to play instead of opting out.
Will MS Dhoni play in IPL 2025?
Coming to MS Dhoni's availability for IPL 2025, it is up to him to decide whether he wants to play or not. The Chennai Super Kings will decide on the retention list once Dhoni takes his final all and the BCCI announces its retention rule.
“We are yet to hear from him (MS Dhoni). Once the BCCI makes a formal decision on the number of retentions, we will have a clear picture,” the sources were quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Dhoni was currently in the USA for a vacation but has reportedly come back to India. He is likely to take a final decision once the BCCI announces the retention rule. The BCCI is expected to announce the player retention rule after which the teams will start preparing for the IPL 2025 mega auction which can throw a few surprises.
The former India wicketkeeper was also asked about his retirement plans earlier this year during an event. Dhoni clearly stated that he would make a decision only after the retention rules are finalized and his decision would be in the best interest of the team.
“There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalized, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team,” Dhoni had said during an event in Hyderabad earlier this year.
MS Dhoni's batting form in IPL
While MS Dhoni has been struggling with his injuries, his form with the bat has been top-notch. He has been batting at No. 8 for the last few seasons and only comes to bat for the last few balls.
