The 35-year-old India National Cricket Team leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has made a revelation on ignoring the retirement demand of the young batter Prithvi Shaw and confirmed that he would definitely retire after MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020. However, he continues to play for Chennai Super Kings and there are speculations of him participating in the IPL 2025 as well.
Chawla, on the other hand, last played Test cricket for India in 2012, while his last ODI and T20I appearances came in 2011 and 2012, respectively. He has not officially announced his retirement from professional cricket and continues to play for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
He has done a remarkable job for the 5-time Champions in the marquee T20 league and is likely to return in the next edition as well. Piyush Chawla holds a unique record of sharing a dressing room with the only father-son pair to ever play in the Indian Premier League - Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar.
Chawla made his India debut in 2006 and shared a dressing room with Sachin, and after many years, he shared a dressing room with Arjun in IPL 2023.

Meanwhile, in a recent interaction on a podcast, Chawla was asked who would retire first between him and Dhoni, to which he picked the CSK great. He also shared a hilarious incident of telling Prithvi Shaw about playing with his son before retirement.
"Mahi bhai. A while ago, Prithvi Shaw told me 'Bas karo yaar ab PC bhai'. I said, I've played with Sachin paaji, and now playing with his son. I am playing with you, and after playing with your son, I will retire," the veteran India spinner said on The Shubhankar Mishra show.
Notably, the legendary CSK captain MS Dhoni has not made any confirmation on his IPL future but has said that he would make a decision once the retention rules are announced by the BCCI.
When people questioned, 'Why Piyush Chawla, and this that?', I said fine, let them talk - Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla also highlighted the importance of having an experienced campaigner in the team and said that he decided to shut down his critics with his performances after questions were raised over his age during his stint with Mumbai Indians.
"With due respect to everyone, MI had good spinners but somewhere down the line, experience matters. If a pressure situation arises, the way an experienced campaigner will handle it, a youngster won't be able to. When we were 20-21, we used to bowl to escape punishment; now, we do it to pick wickets.
"When people questioned, 'Why Piyush Chawla, and this that?', I said fine, let them talk. Then the same people started messaging me, posting on social media such as 'PC is back, PC 2.0," he added.
Chawla has overall picked 192 wickets in IPL while playing for 4 teams, and in the recent edition, he bagged 13 wickets for Mumbai Indians.
