Gujarat Titans had a disappointing campaign in IPL 2024. The 2022 IPL champions failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, they struggled with consistency throughout the season.
With Gill now more experienced as a captain, Gujarat will be hoping for a better season in IPL 2025. The Gujarat-based outfit has also signed several big names in the mega auction and have bolstered its squad. At the same time, they could not sign a few players that could backfire in the future. So, here we are taking a look at three such players.
IPL 2025: Players Gujarat Titans will regret missing out on
David Miller:
A proven finisher with a brilliant record in the IPL, David Miller was not retained by Gujarat Titans. While the decision to not retain the veteran South African batsman was understandable, not many expected the Titans to not go all out for him in the auction.
Miller has been one of Titans' main batsmen since 2022. In 2022, his finishing played a huge role in the Titans' triumphant campaign. However, the franchise eventually decided against signing him. The Titans did make the opening bid for Miller but pulled out soon. In the end, Lucknow Super Giants signed him up for 7.50 crore. Gujarat Titans also decided against using the RTM option for Miller.
Arshdeep Singh:
After releasing Mohammed Shami and also missing him in the 2024 season, the Gujarat Titans needed a quality pace spearhead for the next season. Unsurprisingly, they went for Arshdeep Singh, one of the best T20 bowlers in the world at present.
While Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings started the bidding process for Arshdeep, the Titans entered the race at the INR 7.75 crore mark. They were in the race around the 12 crore mark before pulling out. In the end, Punjab Kings used the RTM option to sign Arshdeep for 18 crore.
Mohit Sharma:
Gujarat Titans' decision to not go all out for their former pacer Mohit Sharma has also baffled many. The right-arm pacer played for the Titans in the last two seasons of IPL and performed really well. In IPL 2023, Mohit Sharma was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament as he took 27 wickets.
In the 2024 season, he picked up 13 wickets. However, the Titans did not go all out for him in the mega auction. They did bid for him till the end before eventually deciding against buying him. In the end, Delhi Capitals bought Mohit for 2.20 crore.
