Rajasthan Royals will be eyeing their second title and first since 2008 when they launch their campaign in IPL 2025. In the last season of the IPL, the Royals managed to qualify for the playoffs but could not advance to that stage.
For the 2025 season, the Royals have assembled a strong squad. In Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Nitish Rana, and Dhruv Jurel, the Royals have a strong batting lineup while their bowling lineup boasts the likes of Sandeep Sharma, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, and others.
The Royals have indeed assembled a strong squad for IPL 2025. At the same time, they could feel the absence of a few players that they did not sign. So here we are taking a look at three such players.
IPL 2025: Players Rajasthan Royals will regret missing out on
Jos Buttler:
Rajasthan Royals' decision to not retain Jos Buttler was truly baffling. A T20 World Cup winner and one of the best white-ball batsmen of this generation, Buttler has a terrific record in the IPL as well. While he did not have a very prolific campaign in IPL 2024, he still managed to hit two centuries. Buttler was the only player to hit more than one-century last season.
The Royals, however, decided against retaining him. In the auction, they went for him right from the start. However, they pulled out of the race around the 10 crore mark. In the end, Gujarat Titans signed up Buttler for 15.75 crore.
Yuzvendra Chahal:
Not many were expecting Rajasthan Royals to release Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner has been one of the most consistent performers with the ball in the IPL in the last decade or so. He is the all-time leading wicket-taker in the competition and is also the only bowler with 200 or more wickets in the IPL.
Chahal's performance for the Royals has been impressive as well. Playing for the franchise since 2022, the India star has picked up 66 wickets in three seasons. However, the Royals decided against retaining him. In the auction, the Rajasthan-based outfit did not make any bid for the spinner either. Chahal was eventually signed up by Punjab Kings for INR 18 crore.
Trent Boult:
Rajasthan Royals could very much regret their decision to not buy Trent Boult in the auction. Very few modern-day pacers have managed to make an impact with the new ball as Boult. Even for the Royals, the New Zealand star constantly made an impact with the new ball.
In the auction, the Royals made the first bid for Boult at INR 2 crore. They tried their best to sign the pacer and were in the race till the 12.25 crore mark. In the end, Mumbai Indians signed up Boult for 12.50 crore.
