The newly appointed head coach of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Rahul Dravid, is expected to make changes to the team ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025).
Rahul Dravid is reportedly set to bring in his support staff from the India team for coaching roles ahead of next year's T20 tournament.
Dravid concluded his coaching term with the Indian team following the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Men in Blue defeated South Africa by seven runs to clinch the trophy in Barbados in June. T. Dilip is the only member of Dravid's support staff retained as fielding coach under Gautam Gambhir's tenure.
Vikram Rathour And Paras Mhambrey Set To Join Rahul Dravid
According to a report by Cricbuzz, former Indian coaches Vikram Rathour and Paras Mhambrey could be part of the Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming season.
Vikram Rathour is expected to replace Trevor Penney, who may join the Barbados Royals team in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Paras Mhambrey is expected to join the inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League. Mhambrey is on the radar for a coaching role with another team in the league.
The report further added that the decision has not been finalized by the franchise management.
"Vikram Rathour, India's former batting coach, may join Dravid at Rajasthan Royals, replacing Trevor Penney, who could be assigned to the Royals' CPL team, Barbados Royals. Paras Mhambrey, India's former bowling coach under Dravid, is also expected to join a franchise although nothing seems to have been finalized so far," a report by Cricbuzz said.
Vikram Rathour And Paras Mhambrey Declined Commentary Offers
Dravid’s former support staff have reportedly turned down commentary offers to focus on coaching roles for the upcoming IPL. They have prioritized coaching positions to develop talent over commentary.
"These former coaches have declined commentary offers, expressing their preference for coaching roles."
Looking Forward To Taking It To The Next Level - Rahul Dravid
Rajasthan Royals announced Dravid as their head coach on a multi-year contract earlier this month.
Dravid began his coaching career with the Royals in 2014 and also has a history with the team as a player, having captained them in 2012-2013 and served as team director and mentor in 2014-2015.
Rahul Dravid expressed excitement about rejoining the Rajasthan Royals and his desire to contribute to the franchise's progress.
Kumar Sangakkara, the Royals' Director of Cricket, praised Dravid, adding that his expertise will be crucial for the team's title quest.
"A lot of hard work has gone into the progress this franchise has made, and I'm looking forward to taking it to the next level," Dravid stated.
"His ability to nurture talent and get them to consistently perform at the highest level will be a huge asset as we aim to challenge for the title," Sangakkara said.
