As Mumbai Indians gear up for their IPL 2025 opener against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday (March 23), all eyes are on MS Dhoni. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, who was retained as an "uncapped player" by CSK, remains a force to be reckoned with despite the unusual tag in the IPL 2025.
However, it was Suryakumar Yadav’s appreciation and respect for Dhoni ahead of the high-voltage IPL 2025 clash between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings that set social media ablaze. Suryakumar Yadav's blunt response to MI’s strategy to control the iconic finisher has been ruling the headlines.
Suryakumar Yadav's praise for MS Dhoni sparks criticism among MI fans ahead of IPL 2025 clash against CSK
Suryakumar Yadav said at the pre-match press conference, “Uncapped player Dhoni! Has anyone been able to control him for so many years? We have learned so many things from him. We still learn. Whenever we get an opportunity, we have a chat with him. So, I am really excited to see him again tomorrow. But from the other side, I will be leading against him.”

'SKY is Mahi Bhakt': Angry Mumbai Indians fans

They're making it friendlier. Spoils the mood.”
One MI fan posted, X: “You made a mistake, SKY. I still remember this type of statement from HP from last year too. This is not the Mumbai Indians we are fans of. We never bowed to anyone. Never ever to CSK.

Notably, the Chennai Super Kings managed to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction since he hasn’t played international cricket in the last five years. Dhoni last played for India in the 2019 ODI World Cup, allowing CSK to retain him at a lower price of INR 4 crore.
I can play for as long as I want for CSK: MS Dhoni
As Dhoni gets ready for another IPL season, many are speculating whether the 2025 season will be the legendary cricketer's last dance. However, in an interview with JioHotstar, Dhoni joked that CSK would still make him play even if he were in a wheelchair, leaving one and all to search for answers.
MS Dhoni said on JioHotstar: “I can play for as long as I want for CSK - That is my franchise. Even if I am in a wheelchair, they will drag me.” Notably, Dhoni battled with a knee injury during IPL 2023 but helped CSK to lift the trophy for the record fifth time.
