IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer contemplates KKR exit after astounding offer from rival franchise

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer might feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the right-hander is considering leaving his current franchise.

Shreyas Iyer's name has been hogging a lot in the headlines, especially with the retention deadline around the corner. The batter's name has been floating in the news as there have been many rumors which have suggested that the captain of the team might leave the Kolkata Knight Riders.

A fresh set of reports in ESPNCricinfo suggested that although it is not confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will move out. But the India National Cricket Team batter has been thinking hard about entering the IPL 2025 auction. This comes after the batter has received a mega offer from a rival franchise.

This comes as a massive development because Shreyas Iyer guided Kolkata Knight Riders to the title win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The right-hander played an instrumental role for the team as a leader and also was decent with the bat for the team in the tournament.

Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and was appointed as the captain of the team. However, the first season didn't go his way, as the team was among the franchises that faced an early exit from the tournament.

Iyer then missed the IPL 2023 due to a back injury, and in his absence, Nitish Rana was appointed as the leader. But it was a similar story for the franchise as they failed to get going and yet again failed to qualify for the playoffs of the tournament.

Iyer then made a dazzling comeback in the IPL 2024 as under him Kolkata Knight Riders were the most dominant team in the tournament. He also played a vital role for the team with the bat as he slammed 351 runs from 14 games. He also slammed two half-centuries as well.

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant also set to feature in the IPL 2025 auction

Apart from the development of Shreyas Iyer, there also have been reports which have suggested that big names KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are likely to enter the auction. The reports claimed that Delhi Capitals want to retain Pant but they are not keen to hand him the leadership role.

On the other hand, KL Rahul had a meeting with Lucknow Super Giants officials. However, the India National Cricket Team batter had not committed to accepting the retention offer if it's being made. It was recently learned that Royal Challengers Bengaluru has shown interest in both batters.

All 10 IPL franchises have been given a deadline to finalize their list of player retentions on October 31st. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to host the IPL mega auction in the last week of November. However, the BCCI is yet to make a formal announcement, as far as the date and venue are concerned.
