Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill is all set to go under the hammer in the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. As per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that the franchise is not keen to keep the young batter as their first retention for the next season.
It is learned that Gujarat Titans are likely to keep Rashid Khan as their first retention. And if that happens, skipper Shubman Gill will be entering the auction. This will be a massive blow for the franchise as the India batter has been their best player since the time they made their debut in the league.
Very likely Shubhman Gill in IPL AUCTION
There are discussions in GT to retain Rashid as their number one player and if GT agrees to that you will see Shubhman in Mega Auction #ShubhmanGill— रोहित जुगलान Rohit Juglan (@rohitjuglan) October 23, 2024
Shubman Gill has been GT's best batter in IPL
For the last 2-3 years, Shubman Gill has been amongst the best batters in the league. The premier batter played a massive role in the franchise winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2022 as he was the leading run-getter for the side with 483 runs under his belt from 16 games.
Gill's best season in the IPL came in 2023 when he slammed 890 runs and helped Gujarat Titans reach the second consecutive final in the league. But with Hardik Pandya moving to Mumbai Indians, he was given the responsibility to lead the team in IPL 2024 and he didn't have a great season as a captain of the team.
Shubman Gill captained GT in IPL 2024
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans were one of the worst performers in the league as they ended in the bottom half of the table. But as a batter, he yet again proved his class as he mustered 426 runs for the team in 12 games and was the key batter for his team last year as well.
However, with reports of him now coming into the IPL 2025 auction, many franchises would be having a keen eye on him. Many sides are in need of a captain, and it won't be a surprise if he goes on to captain some other team in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
With the kind of caliber that has has shown and the kind of batter he is, it won't be a surprise if he attracts huge bids. Overall in the 103 matches in the Indian Premier League, he has mustered 3216 runs at a strike rate of over 135. He also has 4 centuries and 20 half-centuries to his name.
Shubman Gill is all set to play the second Test against New Zealand
Shubman Gill is currently part of the India National Cricket Team for the ongoing three-match series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The right-hander missed the first game of the series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru due to a stiff neck and has now attained full fitness.
Shubman Gill, no doubt, has been one of the best batters going for India in Test cricket. He has made the number three spot his own and has been consistently scoring runs for the team. He has scored three centuries in eight Tests played so far in 2024.
India suffered a disappointing 8-wicket loss in the first Test against New Zealand. With Gill getting fit, it will be a massive boost for the team. The second Test between the teams gets underway at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday (23rd October).
