The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced significant changes for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 regarding injury replacements and player loans. As per an ESPNCricinfo report, franchises can seek replacements for injured players until their 12th match of the IPL season.

On Saturday, September 28, the BCCI announced the guidelines for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, which is expected to take place later this year. Franchises can retain up to six players, including the Right to Match (RTM) card. This move allows teams to retain their core for the Indian Premier League 2025 season.

The auction purse for franchises has been set at Rs 120 crore for the IPL 2025 mega auction. The overall salary cap now includes the auction purse, incremental performance pay, and match fees. The salary cap was Rs 110 crore in 2024 and will increase in value for the upcoming IPL seasons.

IPL Teams Granted Extended Injury Replacement Options

According to ESPN Cricinfo, teams will be allowed to seek injury replacements up to their 12th league match in the IPL 2025. Previously, teams were allowed to do so until only seven matches. This change will provide franchisees with greater flexibility in managing player injuries during the upcoming IPL season.

"Till IPL 2024, franchises had to seek a replacement for an injured player before their seventh match of the season. From IPL 2025, teams can seek replacements till up to the 12th match in the league phase," a report by ESPNCricinfo said.

The Indian Premier League will reinstate the player loan process, despite the fact that this rule has yet to be utilized in practice. The Board of Control for Cricket in India wants to implement regulations to better support teams and players during the tournament.

"The IPL has also decided to "reinstate" the player loan process, which can only be activated during the season. However, the rule has never been used to date," the report added.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Announces Rs 7.5 Lakh Per Match As Fees

Each of the 10 teams will play a total of 14 matches before the playoffs in the current format of the Indian Premier League. Notably, teams do not face all teams twice during the league stage. The overall number of matches is 74, including league matches, knockout rounds, and the final match of the marquee event.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a new match fee structure for IPL players from the upcoming season. Players will earn an additional Rs 7.5 lakh per match, alongside their contracted salaries from franchises. Those who participate in all league games could potentially earn Rs 1.05 crore in match fees.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will impose a two-season ban on players withdrawing from the tournament after being picked in the auction. Overseas players must register for the "Mega Auction," and they will be ineligible for the next year's auction if they fail to do so. These changes aim to enhance player commitment.
