Gujarat Titans are one of the few teams in the IPL that have been quite consistent with their performance since making their debut in 2022, and have qualified for the playoffs in three of the four seasons that the team has been a part of.

2022-2023

When GT made its debut in IPL in the year 2022, nobody gave it a chance of doing what it did during that particular season, which is to win an IPL title.

There were two reasons why the Gujarat Titans were not considered as favorites to win the trophy; one of them was that the team appointed Hardik Pandya as the captain

Hardik, who had no experience of captaining a side at any level in the game of cricket, was entrusted to lead a brand new team which was playing its first season in a well-known league, which was a big thing in itself.

To add to that, Hardik had a history of getting injured at a crucial time in multi-team tournaments and hadn't been bowling on a consistent basis either.

Despite all the factors pointing towards the risk, the decision to appoint Hardik as the captain brought with it the team management's decision to entrust the all-rounder with the job, and he exceeded expectations by leading GT to the title.

Another decision that raised eyebrows was that of former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra as the head coach, who had absolutely no coaching experience in the past, but that decision also paid off as Nehra made a name for himself.

2024-2025

The duo guided GT to two finals back-to-back seasons before Hardik made the decision to leave the team, which caused a lot of controversy.

Hardik was replaced by Shubman Gill, who, although he did not have the best of starts in his first year as the captain, with GT failing to make it to the top four for the first time, but impressed everyone with his leadership in 2025.

Players Retained by Gujarat Titans

As GT is known for doing, the team has retained a good mix of young and experienced players for the next season, including Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Mohammed Siraj, Sai Sudharshan, and Washington Sundar, all of whom played their part last year.
