Like GT, LSG also exceeded everyone's expectations in its debut season by making it to the top four under the leadership of KL Rahul, although it didn't have big names, but utility players who got the job done when it mattered.

One aspect of the team that caught everyone's attention was its ability to defend a total of around 160-170 on a consistent basis, which isn't an easy thing to do in modern-day T20 cricket, where scores of 180-190 are chased comfortably.

Along with LSG's bowling attack, one major factor that aided the team in accomplishing this particular goal was the nature of the pitch defended in Lucknow, which aided spinners and medium pacers.

However, it wasn't just the bowling lineup or the surface that played its part. LSG's ability to defend midling totals had a lot to do with the captaincy as well.

KL Rahul marshaled his troops well and got the best out of them, which resulted in Lucknow Super Giants building a reputation of being a force to reckon with when it comes to defending the target.

Another notable thing that Lucknow Super Giants have done really well in the last four editions is to back youngsters, which started with the likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Ayush Badoni, who were given a consistent run in the first two seasons.

Having said that, the team appeared to have one too many youngsters in the team last season, especially in the bowling department majority of whom were injured or failed to make an impact with the ball.

To add to that, the top three batters of the team, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Rishabh Pant, failed to get going and didn't get the support of the middle order when they scored runs, which led to a disappointing season for the team.

Although Lucknow Super Giants retained names like Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram, they would want them to click in the majority of the games, which wasn't the case in the previous season.
