One of the oldest teams, which has been a part of the IPL since the first season, the Punjab Kings had one of their best seasons last year as they reached the final of the tournament for the second time in eighteen years.

2008-2013

Punjab Kings, known as Kings XI Punjab back then, had a good start to the IPL as they finished second in the points table in the inaugural edition, but failed to make it to the knockouts and the playoffs till 2013

Having said that, the team was the centre of some good individual performances during the said time period, one of them being the eye-catching season that Shaun Marsh had in 2008 and a match-winning century that Paul Valthaty scored against CSK in 2011.

The present South African middle-order batter, David Miller, also scored a century in the 2013 edition of the IPL while playing for the Punjab Kings against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

However, despite such performances Punjab Kings failed to click as a unit, which resulted in them not being able to book a spot in the top four.

2014-2019

A new ray of hope emerged for things to change when PBKS made it to the final against KKR in 2014 under the leadership of George Bailey and almost pulled the game in their favour, only to lose it in the final over

Regardless of entering the next season as the runners-up same old story was repeated as the team once again failed to string match-winning performances on a consistent basis for the next ten years

One of the reasons for lackluster performances over the years was constant changes that the Punjab Kings made, ranging from captains to players, which brought instability, which was reflected in the outcomes as well

Since 2016, Punjab Kings have named eight different players with a maximum run of tw years each given to Ravichandran Ashwin and KL Rahul

2020-2025

Like 2014, things were a lot better in 2025 when Ricky Ponting was appointed as the head coach of the team and was joined by Shreyas Iyer as the captain, both of whom had previously worked together at Delhi Capitals and taken the team to the final in 2020.

The duo was able to keep its good work going for the Punjab Kings as well by guiding the team to its second IPL final and would hope to go a step further in the upcoming edition.

Punjab Kings retained their core before the auction, including captain Shreyas Iyer, India's highest wicket taker in T20Is, Arshdeep Singh, and experienced leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
