The IPL auction 2024 will be held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19. This is the first time an IPL auction is being held outside India. This is expected to be a mini-auction. However, several franchises have released a host of players to refurbish their squads.

Hardik Pandya was released by Gujarat Titans which was the biggest news of the retention day. Eventually, Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya and named him the captain of the franchise taking cricket fans and experts by surprise.

IPL Auction 2024 Date And Time

This is a long-term decision as per reports while the reason behind the same is yet to be completely revealed. Amongst other franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders named Shreyas Iyer as the skipper for IPL 2024. He missed IPL 2023 due to injury and will be back as the leader of the side.

A total of 333 players have registered themselves for the IPL 2024 auction. Among them, 214 are Indians, 119 overseas players, and two are from associate nations. A total of 116 capped players and 215 uncapped players will go under the hammer on December 19.

Some big overseas names have registered themselves for the auction. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Steve Smith, and Josh Hazlewood are among the top overseas names in the auction. Big names like Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Shakib Al Hasan have opted out of the IPL auction.

As per reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is unwilling to send their players into the auction and eventually in the IPL due to international commitments. The board is thinking about whether or not to give their players the NOC. Three Bangladesh players namely, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam have put their names up for the IPL auction 2024.

While almost all the big names of Indian cricket have found franchises, there are still some names looking for franchises. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been named as the new Gujarat Titans skipper after Hardik Pandya’s exit. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant is expected to return back to action in IPL 2024.

The trades between franchises have been a continuous process for the last few years now and they are ongoing in the backdrop. With Hardik Pandya being named as Mumbai Indians captain, what the future holds for Rohit Sharma will be an interesting observation.

Heading into the IPL 2024 auction, franchises are well aware of what exactly they need in terms of specialist players. They are also well aware of the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses and will make their moves accordingly.
