Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Deepak Chahar’s name is doing the rounds among Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans. Despite not being retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Chahar remains hopeful that the iconic franchise will go all out to bring him back into the fold at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, just as they did in the last auction.
Deepak Chahar has been a key asset for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the 2018 season, but his most recent campaign was cut short after eight matches due to a groin injury. Chennai has already locked in five core players—captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, and the legendary MS Dhoni—ahead of the auction.

The five-time IPL champions went against retaining the Indian seamer to retain Sri Lanka’s pace sensation, Matheesha Pathirana. However, Chahar is still confident that the franchise will go for him at the upcoming mega auction, as he recalled how CSK surprised everyone by making a record-breaking bid of INR 14 crore in the 2022 auction to secure his services.

In that season also, CSK couldn't retain Chahar but managed to bring them back into the rank at the auction. As the 32-year-old pacer is now once again going under the hammer, he is confident that his Powerplay expertise will make the teams go after him as teams increasingly chase massive totals in the tournament for the past few seasons.
I think CSK will bid for me again: Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar was quoted as saying by The Times of India: “I was not retained by them in the last mega auction as well. But they went all out for me and bought me back. I don't know what will happen this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now given the fact that around 90-100 runs are being scored in the Powerplay, and that's why the teams are scoring more than 200 more frequently. I have proved how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase of the game.”
Deepak Chahar’s ability to control the scoring rate in the crucial opening overs was crucial for CSK in the past seasons, which makes him a rare asset in the shortest format of the game. Well, Chahar’s heart is looking for a return to Chennai camp, but the seamer revealed that he would love to play for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) if the yellow jersey is out of reach.

His loyalty to CSK is evident, but Chahar has openly expressed his desire to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to make a bid for him at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction if his dream of sporting the yellow jersey again shatters later this month. Given his ability to handle the Powerplay with control and accuracy, the IPL 2025 auction could see a heated bidding war for Chahar.
Chahar signed off by saying, “I think they will bid for me again. I would like to don the yellow jersey again, and if not that, then I would want the Rajasthan Royals to bid for me.”
