Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has taken a sharp swipe at the legendary England paceman James Anderson for entering the IPL 2025 mega auction after retiring from the game at the age of 42.
Anderson has set a base price of INR 1.25 crore for the mega auction. The 42-year-old English legend surprised one and all by registering himself for the first-ever IPL in his illustrious career.

He last played a T20 match in 2014 and has never competed in the IPL to prioritize red-ball cricket, but after retiring from the game, he wants to gain IPL experience. James Anderson is the oldest player to register for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Anderson has made it to the shortlist for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled later this month. However, Jofra Archer missed out on the 37 England-qualified players list finalized for the much-awaited auction. The reasons for Archer's exclusion could be his personal decision, a move by the ECB, or simply a lack of interest from the IPL franchises.
For Anderson, this mega auction represents a significant opportunity to have the IPL experience on his CV. His dream to play his first-ever IPL season has already taken a baby step after a massive initial pool of 1,574 players was trimmed down to just 574 names, which included his name too.

Meanwhile, a new IPL regulation states that players who have previously been part of the IPL but do not feature in the 2025 season will not be eligible to participate in the 2026 edition, so it would be interesting to see whether Anderson gets any buyers and stretches his career till the IPL 2026.
