The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) entered the IPL 2025 auction with a hefty Rs 69 crore purse and a clear mandate to rebuild and revamp.
After a disappointing seventh-place finish in 2024, Super Giants retained a core of Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan, but gaps remain.
Their auction strategy focused on acquiring a top-tier captain, bolstering their top-order batting adding a quality pace bowler, and finding a versatile all-rounder.
Who will Lucknow Supergiants target?
Rishabh Pant will top their wishlist. His explosive batting, wicketkeeping skills, and captaincy experience make him a perfect fit, though his price tag could exceed Rs 25 crore.
If Pant proves too expensive, Shreyas Iyer, a proven leader and reliable batter will be a strong alternative. LSG is also eyeing Glenn Maxwell, whose all-around abilities and experience thriving in spin-friendly conditions align perfectly with their home ground.
RTM to come into play?
LSG holds one "Right to Match" card, likely reserved for Quinton de Kock, their former opener. De Kock's aggressive powerplay batting and familiarity with the team make him a valuable asset.
On the bowling front, Mitchell Starc's left-arm pace and experience make him a prime target, though competition will be fierce.
Washington Sundar, a capable all-rounder who can bat in the top seven and bowl economical overs is another player of interest. Super Giants also seeks to strengthen their Indian pace contingent, with Prasidh Krishna, known for his pace and bounce, being considered.
Giants 2024 campaign exposed their inconsistencies in both batting and bowling and their retained players form a decent base but they lack a genuine match-winner at the top of the order and consistent all-round options.
Their bowling, while featuring promising talents like Bishnoi and Yadav, needs a seasoned leader and injury cover.
