Who is Priyansh Arya?
As mentioned earlier, Priyansh Arya is a 23-year-old left-handed batter, who represents Delhi in domestic cricket. In his short career, Arya has rapidly made a name for himself in domestic cricket, particularly with his stunning performances in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024.
He was born on January 18, 2001, and performed brilliantly in age-group cricket. The batter soon caught the eye of selectors with his aggressive batting. In 2019, he represented India A Under-19 in a quadrangular series, playing alongside the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi.
Arya's breakthrough in senior cricket came in November 2021, when he made his T20 debut for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He further made his List A debut in November 2023.
Overall, Arya has scored 356 runs in 11 T20s at an average of 32.36 and a strike rate of 167.92, including one ton and two half-centuries. Meanwhile, in List-A cricket, he has failed to impress as he has registered just 69 runs in 5 matches at an average of 13.80.
Earlier, in an interaction with Sports Yaari, Priyansh had expressed his desire to play with Virat Kohli at RCB, he had said, "I want to play with RCB because Virat Kohli is my favorite batsman and RCB has never won the IPL title till date - I want to help in that."
Priyansh Arya hit six sixes in the Delhi Premier League
Priyansh Arya rose to fame in the Delhi Premier League 2024 as he dazzled fans with remarkable consistency and power-hitting. The left-handed batter channeled his inner Yuvraj Singh and hit six sixes in a match.
He made history by becoming the first player in DPL history to hit six sixes in an over. He did that against North Delhi Strikers’ spinner Manan Bharadwaj while playing for South Delhi Superstarz.
In that game, he reached the century off just 40 balls and finished his innings at 120 runs off 50 balls, with 10 fours and 10 sixes. Notably, it was his second century of the season.
With his rising profile, he was expected to be a sought-after player in the IPL mega auction and that exactly happened. Also, a day before the first day of the mega auction, he blasted 102 off 43 for Delhi against UP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and took bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shivam Mavi and Piyush Chawla to cleaners.
