Several Afghanistan national team cricketers came to the limelight after making notable contributions to the Indian Premier League. Players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Mujeeb ur Rahman made an impact while playing for various franchises in the league.

Rashid Khan has been a standout performer in the tournament. He became the second Afghan player bought in an IPL auction after being picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017. The leg spinner secured 139 wickets in 109 matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.67.

Mujeeb Became A Polished Bowler – Asghar Afghan

In a conversation with The Times of India, Asghar Afghan emphasized Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s performance in the Under-19 World Cup. Asghar mentioned that Mujeeb became a more polished bowler after his stint in the IPL.

“Mujeeb became a polished bowler after playing the IPL. He was a changed bowler after that. When he performed well in Under-19 cricket, especially in the World Cup, we directly picked him for the senior team. After that, he played the IPL and was a different bowler,” Afghan said.

“IPL has helped him in taking his game to another level. His body language, analysis of the game, and bowling in different situations – these things drastically changed in him after the IPL. IPL has played a big role in Rashid and Mujeeb’s careers,” he added.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who represented franchises such as Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Sunrisers Hyderabad, exhibited his spin prowess in the IPL. The mysterious spinner picked up 19 wickets in 19 matches with an impressive economy rate of 8.18.

Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed will be part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the upcoming edition, while Fazalhaq Farooqi was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahmanullah Gurbaz will represent Koklata Knight Riders (KKR), and Naveen Ul Haq is set to play for the LSG.
