Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals (Newlands, Cape Town)

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals match in IPL 2009 was the first match of the tournament that ended in a tie. Rajasthan Royals scored 150-6 batting first with the help of Yusuf Pathan’s 42 runs. KKR bowlers Anureet Singh, Ajantha Mendis, and Ishant Sharma grabbed 2 wickets each. Batting 2nd, Sourav Ganguly scored 46 runs and Chris Gayle made 41 runs. The match ended in a tie after Kolkata Knight Riders also made 150 in 20 overs.

In the super over, KKR batsmen Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum arrived on the crease. They managed to score 15 runs from 6 balls of Kamran Akmal. Kings XI Punjab won a match by just 1 run in IPL 2009 against Deccan Chargers. It was another exciting match in IPL 2009. Kings XI Punjab batted first in the match and scored a below-par 134-7. Kumar Sangakkara (56) hit a half-century but no other batsman could bat very well. Batting second, Rohit Shama scored 42 runs for Deccan Charges while opener Herschelle Gibbs made 26 runs.

Deccan Chargers were 131-8 before the penultimate delivery and needed a four off the final delivery to win. Irfan Pathan managed to win the match for Kings XI Punjab as Ryan Harris could only score 2 runs on the final ball. As a result, Kings XI Punjab won the match by 1 run. Yuvraj Singh took a hat-trick in the match and was awarded the man of the match award.

Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab (Kingsmead, Durban)

Chennai Super Kings defended 116 runs in a match against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2009. This is still the record of the lowest successful defence in the Indian Premier League. CSK batted first and no batsman could perform brilliantly due to Kings XI Punjab’s tough bowling. Parthiv Patel was CSK’s highest run-scorer with 32 runs as CSK scored 116-9.

In response, Chennai Super Kings too bowled magnificently and kept Kings XI Punjab far from victory. KXIP could only reach 92-8 in 20 overs and eventually lost the match by 24 runs.
