In 2022, the Indian team featured many fresh names. The choices stayed true to the strategy of playing younger players more frequently and giving the veterans a break against the lower competition to keep them fresh for the big games. Many homegrown players finally fulfilled their lifelong ambition of representing India in international competition. There were a few standouts that were ultimately left off the roster.

These players have been on the cusp of making the team for quite some time, and next year may be their year. Check out these five Indian athletes who may break into the big leagues in 2023.

Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan has been banging on the door of selection for two years. After 29 first-class matches, he has an 81.33 batting average thanks to 2928 runs, 10 tons, and 8 fifties.

Given Chestewar Pujara’s inconsistent performance and Ajinkya Rahane’s exclusion from the test cricket squad, India desperately needs a dependable middle-order batter. Based on his outstanding performances, Sarfaraz may be India’s best option for the World Test Championship cycle of 2023–25.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the domestic cricketing scene in India’s most promising young talent. As a 20-year-old, he has a promising international future ahead of him and will likely make his debut for his country very soon.

Jaiswal has scored 1015 runs at an average of 84.58 in 7 first-class games. He batted.539 in List-A, scoring 1511 runs in 32 games.

India may have found their future replacement for Rohit Sharma in the opening position in his younger Mumbai teammate. In the red-ball format, Jaiswal has distinguished out not only for his consistency but also for his run-scoring prowess.

KS Bharat

The wicketkeeper from Andhra has been in the running for a spot in the Indian team for some time now, but he has yet to get his shot. In a November 2021 test match against New Zealand, he came the closest when he replaced the injured Wriddhiman Saha in goal.

As the Indian team’s backup wicketkeeper, opportunities will arise shortly. Bharat had a respectable first-class stat line, with 4425 runs scored across 82 games at an average of 37 and nine centuries scored. In addition to his 82 stumpings, he has taken 282 catches in his career.

Abhimanyu Easwaran

For a long time, India has needed help finding reliable openers for tests played outside India. There were signs of stability between KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma during their most recent tour to England, but the two have had their share of injury problems and have not played together frequently in test matches.

India may wish to consider Abhimanyu Easwaran to replace Rohit Sharma in the test lineup after the WTC 2021–23 season because of age concerns. Easwaran’s been with India ‘A’ since the beginning, and he’s been waiting a long time for his big break.

Rahul Tripathi

Despite his pioneering performances, Rahul Tripathi is a domestic gem that has yet to have a well-deserved chance. He has been consistently good for the IPL for a long time, and his List-A stats are also impressive.

In 53 List-A matches, he batted for 1782 runs (at an average of roughly 38), including four hundred. As the first team was rested, Tripathi was selected to play for India’s second team in their tour of Ireland and Zimbabwe.

As India tries out new One-Day International (ODI) lines in preparation for the 2023 World Cup, Tripathi has a good chance of finally making his international debut.

The IPL’s Impact Player Regulation Will Only Apply to Indian Cricketers

To make the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League season more entertaining and exhilarating, the BCCI has already established the concept of the Impact Player. This rule, which has been trialed in this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, allows any side to swap out a member of its starting XI before the 14th over of the opening innings. After his introduction, the player will be given his allotted time at bat and overs to bowl. However, the player subbed off will not be allowed to take any further part in a game. No impact players will be used if the overcount is down to fewer than 10 because of rain.

Another theory suggests that only Indian cricketers can be called “Impact Players.” According to Cricbuzz, BCCI managers in contact with various franchises have informed them that only Indian players could come in as the 12th player or as an active substitute if they decide to make a change during the match, even though the BCCI has yet to share the complete rules and regulations about how the Impact Player concept will work.

The teams have been told they cannot sign any international players to replace Indian ones. Whenever a player needs a break, it must be an Indian cricketer. Another contributing factor is that just four non-nationals can be included in a team’s starting eleven.

As a result of its success in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in 2022–23, the BCCI has chosen to implement the concept of the “Impact Player” in the Indian Premier League.

“The idea is to give each team’s substitute player a larger role in the game. As a result, the game would gain an additional layer of strategy and method. Some team sports, like football, rugby, basketball, and baseball where you can place bets at https://betshah.com/, allow for strategic substitutions. The sub is given the same opportunities to play as the starter “the BCCI had stated earlier this year when introducing the regulation to the SMAT.
