During the match no.61 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Punjab Kings (PBKS) hosted the in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the most picturesque stadium in world cricket, in Dharamsala. The match was played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium (HPCA). RCB handed PBKS their 6th consecutive defeat in the tournament, winning by 23 runs, and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first. They made two changes: Harpreet Brar and Lockie Ferguson came in for Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett. While RCB had to make one forced change as their regular captain Rajat Patidar was out injured, with Jitesh Sharma leading the side, and Suyash Sharma and Romario Shepherd came in for Rajat Patidar and Jacob Duffy.

After being invited to bat first, RCB were off to a breezy start as Virat Kohli came all guns blazing. Jacob Bethell once again failed despite getting the start and was back in the dressing room after scoring 11 runs. It was yet again the partnership between Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal stitching 76-run partnership between them. The latter was out on 45 runs.
Kohli once again brought up his fifty following his hundred in the last game. He scored a half-century in 31 balls, but was soon dismissed for 58 runs by his former RCB teammate Yuzvedra Chahal. However, he put RCB in a good position. Venkatesh Iyer stepped up, scoring his first fifty for the reigning champions.
Later on, Tim David, who played a small, impactful innings of 28 off 12 deliveries, and Venky Iyer was unbeaten with an impressive innings of 73 runs off 40 balls as RCB posted 222/4 in their 20 overs.
Coming out to chase, PBKS had a collapse inside three overs as they lost three wickets in the form of Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Shreyas Iyer. Once again, it was a superb two overs from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who dismissed the PBKS openers.
The home side lost half the squad inside 100 runs. After that, Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh stitched a 67-run partnership between them for the sixth wicket. The former was dismissed on the score of 37 runs by his fellow teammate Josh Hazlewood, picking the wicket. Shashank Singh tried his best and scored 54 runs.
