Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed with each other in the reverse fixture of the Indian Premier League 2025 on Tuesday, May 6. The 56th match of IPL 2025 was hosted by the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. They managed to dismiss both the Mumbai Indians openers - Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton - for low scores but dropped three catches in the powerplay, which cost them big time.
Will Jacks smashed a good half-century while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with crucial 35 runs to stabilize the innings. However, GT soon made a good comeback and restricted Mumbai Indians to a below-par total of 155/8. Sai Kishore bagged two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan, and Gerald Coetzee picked up one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Sai Sudharsan got out early, but Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler batted well to stabilize the innings. The match went deep, and when the rain interrupted the play, GT needed 49 runs off 36 balls to win.
After the break, Jasprit Bumrah staged a comeback for MI by dismissing Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan, while Trent Boult and Ashwani Kumar dismissed Sherfane Rutherford and Rashid Khan. As the second rain interruption hit, GT were 5 runs behind on DLS par score. In the last over, GT needed 15 runs to win and they managed to score it on the last ball to win the match by 3 wickets.
