IPL 2021 is the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. In the last 13 editions, the Indian Premier League has witnessed a lot of records. There are some records which are very special and they are almost impossible to break. In the last 13 seasons of the Indian Premier League, there have been some records that are almost impossible to break. Here we look at such records in the last 13 IPL seasons.
IPL: Season Wise 13 Records Which Are Impossible To Break
2008- Shaun Marsh: The Only Uncapped Player To Win The Orange Cap
Shaun Marsh is the only player in IPL so far who has won the orange cap before making his international debut. Shaun Marsh played 11 matches in IPL 2008 for Kings XI Punjab and scored 616 runs. He was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2008 and won the orange cap. However, he was yet to play his international match at that time. He made his international debut for Australia in June 2008 in an ODI match against West Indies. Hence, Shaun Marsh is the only uncapped player to win the orange cap in IPL.
2009- Yuvraj Singh: 2 Hat-Tricks And 340 Runs
Yuvraj Singh played for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2009. As a secondary spinner, Yuvraj amused everyone when he took 2 hat-tricks in the tournament. The left-arm spinner took a hat-trick in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Again in the match against Deccan Chargers, Yuvraj Singh took another hat-trick. Along with two hat-tricks, Yuvraj also scored 340 runs in 14 matches which consisted of 2 half-centuries. So this is another record that is almost impossible to break. Although a good bowler might take 2 hat-tricks in one IPL season, it is highly unlikely that he will also score so many runs in the tournament.
2010- Jacques Kallis 572 Runs And 13 Wickets
Jacques Kallis has been an exception all-rounder to play international cricket. The former South African cricketer was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2010. He scored 572 runs in 16 matches and was the 2nd highest run-scorer in the tournament. He also took 13 wickets in the tournament. It was a very good all-round performance from Jacques Kallis which will be impossible for a player to break.
2011- Chris Gayle 37 Runs In One Over
Chris Gayle once scored 37 runs in a single over in IPL 2011. During Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kochi Tuskers Kerala match in IPL 2011, Gayle hit 4 sixes and 3 fours in a single over of Prasanth Parameswaran. The bowler also bowled a no-ball which went for a six. Smashing 37 runs in a single over is like a one-off event in IPL and almost impossible to happen again in the tournament.
2012- Chris Gayle 59 Sixes In A Single Season
In IPL 2013, Chris Gayle smashed 59 sixes while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He won the maximum sixes award in the tournament. The West Indies cricketer was also the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 733 runs in 14 innings. 59 sixes by Chris Gayle is still the most number of sixes hit by a player in a single IPL tournament. This is another IPL record that is highly unlikely to break.
2013- Chris Gayle???s 175 vs PWI
Chris Gayle was at his best in IPL 2013. Being part of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chris Gayle hit 175 runs in a match against Pune Warriors. Gayle’s unbeaten knock consisted of 17 sixes and 13 fours. The next highest score in IPL is of Brendon McCullum who scored 158 runs in IPL 2008. Gayle’s highest knock of 175 in an innings is another record in IPL which is impossible to break.
2014- Delhi Daredevils Losing 9 Consecutive Games
In IPL 2014, Delhi Capitals faced their worst show. The team was known as Delhi Daredevils at that time. In the first 5 matches, Delhi Daredevils won two games and lost three. Thereafter, Delhi Daredevils followed a series of defeats and lost all the rest of 9 games. They lost 9 matches in a row and finished on the last position on the points table with 12 losses in 14 games. So Delhi Daredevils’ record of losing 9 consecutive games in a single IPL tournament is another record that is highly unlikely to occur again.
2015- Yuzvendra Chahal Uncapped Player With Most Wickets (23)
In IPL 2015, Yuvzendra Chahal bagged the limelight after he scalped 23 wickets in the tournament. He was the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the season, in which he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, he had not made his international debut at that time. He made his international debut in an ODI match against Zimbabwe in June 2016. So Yuzvendra Chahal is an uncapped player to bag 23 wickets in an IPL season. This is another record that is impossible for an uncapped player to break in the Indian Premier League.
2016- Virat Kohli 4 Centuries And 973 Runs In One Season
Virat Kohli was at his best in IPL 2016, when he smashed 4 centuries in a single IPL tournament. He also scored 973 runs in the tournament and won the orange cap. This is another record that is almost important to break. No player other than Virat Kohli has managed to cross 900 runs in a single IPL tournament so far. So 973 runs and 4 centuries in a single IPL tournament is a record that is impossible to break in IPL.
2017- Chris Lynn And Sunil Narine Smash 105 Runs In The First Powerplay (6 Overs)
IPL 2017 witnessed the best batting show in powerplay overs in the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. Batting as openers for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine scored 105 runs in just 6 overs. Sunil Narine scored 54 off just 17 balls while Chris Lynn scored 50 off just 22 balls. Both the players gave an aggressive batting start to KKR as the team won the match by 6 wickets in the end. 105 runs in the powerplay overs is another record that is highly unlikely to happen again in IPL.
2018- KL Rahul’s 14 Ball Half Century
KL Rahul scored a fifty off just 14 balls in a match against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2018. This is the fastest fifty ever registered in the Indian Premier League. Rahul smashed 4 sixes and 6 fours while playing for Punjab Kings to reach his half-century in just 14 balls. So this is another record that is highly unlikely to break in IPL.
2019- Alzarri Joseph Most Wickets On IPL Debut (6)
Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2019. The West Indies cricketer shined in his debut match itself after taking 6 wickets for just 12 runs. This is also the best ever bowling figures in IPL. So Alzarri Joseph taking 6 wickets in his IPL debut is another record that is impossible to break in the Indian Premier League.
2020- Anrich Nortje’s Fastest Ball (156.2 kmph)
In IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals’ Anrich Nortje bowled the fastest ball in IPL history in a match against Rajasthan Royals. The South African pacer bowled a ball at a speed of 156.22 km/hr. This is the fastest ever delivery in the Indian Premier League. This is another record that is impossible to break in the Indian Premier League. Nortje also holds the record for the fastest 4 deliveries in the Indian Premier League.
