Former Indian veteran Sunil Gavaskar has given an insight into his thoughts, holding the reputed Indian Premier League responsible for the heated confrontation between Indian skipper Shubman Gill and English openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
India had their ugliest confrontation on the field during the Lord's Test, when Indian skipper Shubman Gill, for the first time, unleashed his fury on the opposition openers for wasting time on the field.
Indians attempted to bowl at least two overs at the tired English players who had fielded for the entire strength of Day 3 and would find it tough to face the Indian bowlers. Hence, with a stalwart like Jasprit Bumrah in the line-up, captain Shubman Gill was in search of an early wicket.
Pointing his fingers and hurling abuses at Crawley, when intervened by Duckett, Shubman Gill didn't step back from going chest-to-chest.

Indian bowlers rattle the English top order
Indian bowlers have run a rampage at Lord's; they have run through the English top order, picking 4 wickets by the end of the first session at Lord's.
Shubman Gill-led India started off the day with Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah taking the new ball, and this time, Siraj has emerged as the wicket-taker for India. Bumrah has had an unfortunate outing in this innings, missing out on wickets on several close chances.
Siraj first got the better of Ben Duckett when the aggressive English opener was dismissed in an attempt to pull him over mid-on. He was followed by Ollie Pope, also dismissed by Siraj.
Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Zak Crawley, who looked in shape till then, but was caught sharply by Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. Harry Brook had a brief stay but dominated Indian bowlers with some big hits. He was eventually tricked by Akash Deep as he was bowled around his legs.
Akash Deep now has his first wicket at Lord's, as England goes for lunch at 98/4.
Crawley's act is as legal as Rishabh Pant's in the ICC T20 World Cup Final
While India was angered by what Zak Crawley did at Lord's, which was clearly to end the day's play by killing off the remaining time for the day. But the English batter's act was totally legal according to the rules.
Even calling in the physio to check on any possible injury scare is completely at the discretion of players, an advantage that was also taken by Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.
