Is Jasprit Bumrah injured? Irfan Pathan reveals truth amid wicketless IPL 2026 campaign

Former India National Cricket Team all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, has shared his bold views on the Mumbai Indians (MI) pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah amid his wicketless Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign.

Irfan Pathan reckoned that the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah is not injured; instead, there are other factors contributing to him not being able to pick wickets in the IPL 2026.

The 32-year-old Bumrah is a GOAT - that's a fact. But Bumrah is a human being - that's a fact too. The current state of the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling unit looks horrible, even in the presence of some top-class names.

Bumrah has Trent Boult as his bowling partner. The same Kiwi, with whom he wreaked havoc in some seasons of the Indian Premier League. Then, there is Deepak Chahar, who on his day, can destroy the top order of any batting unit, and then comes the man with the golden arm - Shardul Thakur.

In the spin department, MI have AM Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner - both of whom are exceptional. However, no bowler has been able to perform well in IPL 2026, which has led to Bumrah bowling in phases, where he looks to contain runs.

So far in 5 matches, Jasprit Bumrah has returned with figures of 0/35, 0/21, 0/32, 0/41, and 0/35 - which are great, looking at the way huge runs are being scored in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, Irfan Pathan, speaking on his YouTube channel, stated that Bumrah going wicketless is a problem, and he needs to bowl his slower deliveries fuller and focus on bowling other deliveries with extra pace.

"Jasprit Bumrah being wicketless is a problem for them. He hasn't been able to bowl at high pace, and his slower ones have been short. He needs to pitch it up.

"He doesn't seem to be injured, but I think these two things are causing problems. He needs to bowl the slower one fuller and bowl more high-pace deliveries," Irfan Pathan added.

In the same video, Irfan Pathan lavished rich praise on the Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer and opener Prabhsimran Singh for their dominant performances in the match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). He elaborated:

"Shreyas Iyer runs the game really well when he is on the field, rotating his bowlers perfectly. We have already seen that, but when he bats, it seems like he never loses control, be it the chase, the bowlers, or the shot selection. When he hit that six to Bumrah off the short ball, it was like he was waiting for Bumrah to bowl short. We could not forget the four he hit last year, and he hit yet another amazing shot. We can see a total cruise control in his batting.

"No matter how much you praise this unbeaten 80, it won't be enough. He has shown great control and improvement. He scored 500 runs last year, and it seemed like he was a good player who could bat aggressively. But he has shown maturity this year.

"He is targeting his bowlers and also stepping out against slow bowlers. He was waiting for the slower ones from Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. He knows that he can step out against a bowler who doesn't have a high pace. He did not step out against Jasprit Bumrah, but he showed aggression while facing him as well."
