India wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been under the radar for a while now. This comes after he opted for a break due to personal reasons and then didn't play in the domestic circuit, which made BCCI terminate him from the central contract list.
However, as per a report in Cricbuzz, it is learned that Ishan Kishan is now all set to make a comeback in the upcoming domestic season. The keeper-batter has been included in the 25 pre-season probables by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).
The reports claimed that Ishan Kishan has agreed to play for the Jharkhand in the upcoming domestic season. The keeper-batter might also be considered to captain the team, and he has told the Jharkhand State Cricket Association that he will be playing the entire domestic season.
The report also claimed that some well-wishers and the Team India selectors had a chat with Ishan Kishan and advised him on the matter. It is learned that they categorically told the keeper-batter that he might miss out on international opportunities during the prime of his career.
The report also added that once Ishan Kishan makes a comeback through the domestic circuit, he will be considered for the national selection. Shreyas Iyer, who along with Kishan, was terminated from the central contracts, also made a comeback through the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.
The domestic season in India begins with the Duleep Trophy first-class red ball competition on September 5. But Ishan Kishan is unlikely to be selected for the tournament because he previously refused to play for the state last season.
Last year, Ishan Kishan was one of the main players for the Indian team in all three formats of the game. The keeper-batter performed consistently for the team, and in the absence of Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan was considered the first-choice keeper in the team.
Ishan Kishan, who played the ICC World Cup 2023, opted out of the Test series against South Africa, stating mental fatigue, and was then never considered for the selection. He was even asked by the team management to play domestic cricket, but he refused to play, which made BCCI remove the keeper-batter from the central contracts.
Ishan Kishan was last seen in action during the Indian Premier League. He didn't have the kind of season he would have wanted for Mumbai Indians. But with him now all set to make a comeback in domestic, it won't be a surprise if he returns to the team.
Jharkhand appoints SS Rao as the coach for the upcoming season
Apart from the development surrounding Ishan Kishan, the Jharkhand Cricket Team has appointed SS Rao as the coach for the upcoming season.
The veteran of 52 FC games will be replacing Debasis Mohanty, the coach from last season. He was recommended by the JSCA's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The return of Ishan Kishan also makes him one of the hot picks for the domestic season.
