India wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is all set to feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024. As per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that the BCCI selection committee wants the young player to be back in the red-ball format to be in contention for the Indian team again.
The Duleep Trophy in India is all set to take place from 5th September. Ishan Kishan along with Shreyas Iyer will feature in the the tournament. The duo was terminated from the BCCI's annual contract earlier this year after they denied playing in the domestic circuit and were even dropped from the Indian team.
While Shreyas Iyer later featured in the Ranji Trophy, Ishan Kishan didn't agree to play. The keeper-batter came under the radar despite multiple warnings by the BCCI as well as the team management. He continued opting out of the games and for a long has been away from the action.
Kishan was one of the main players for the Indian team in all three formats of the game. Apart from this, he also was consistent and was the first-choice keeper in the team. He even played in the ICC World Cup 2023 but after that things didn't go his way at all.
Kishan pulled out of the Test series against South Africa, stating mental fatigue. It was then expected that he would be back soon as then head coach Rahul Dravid told him to feature in domestic cricket to make a comeback in the Indian team. However, he didn't agree as he kept staying on the break and this didn't go well with BCCI.
Kishan then was removed by the BCCI from the central contracts. The keeper-batter then made a return to cricket in the Indian Premier League. But he didn't have the kind of season he wanted as he couldn't set the stage on fire and scored less amount of runs for the team.
Ishan Kishan also set to feature in Ranji Trophy
Apart from this, there were reports, which claimed that Ishan Kishan will be making a comeback in the Ranji Trophy. The keeper-batter has been included in the 25 pre-season probables by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).
Kishan reportedly agreed to play for the Jharkhand in the upcoming domestic season. It was also learned that India's batter might also be considered to captain the team as he will be featuring in the entire domestic season for the Jharkhand.
It was also reported that Indian team selectors had a chat with Ishan Kishan and advised him on the matter. It is learned that they categorically told the keeper-batter that he might miss out on international opportunities during the prime of his career.
Kishan making a comeback through the domestic circuit will make things easy for him to come back into the Indian team. The upcoming Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy will be a great opportunity for him to make his case strong and prove his prowess.
