Ishan Kishan’s strange dismissal during the IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians has become a hot topic among the fans and cricket experts. Ishan Kishan had just started his innings when he tried to glance a leg-side delivery from Deepak Chahar.
The ball clearly missed the bat and landed safely in the gloves of Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton. But there was no appeal from the bowler or keeper, and the umpire was about to call it a wide. But out of nowhere, the left-handed batter turned and walked off the field, as if he had edged it, and suddenly the on-field umpire raised his finger.
Ishan Kishan leaves everyone confused by walking out without an edge
Later, replays confirmed that there was no contact with the bat, leaving fans and experts completely shocked. Former cricketers Varun Aaron, Manoj Tiwary, and Nick Knight were also left stunned by the incident. They called Ishan’s decision to walk off “bizarre” and questioned why he didn’t wait for the umpire or a review.
The former Indian pacer Varun Aaron called Kishan’s dismissal strange and disappointing. He said Ishan must have thought he hit the ball, but with no appeal and the umpire unsure, he should have waited and taken the review, as it would have saved him.

It was quite bizarre: Varun Aaron on Ishan Kishan's dismissal
Varun Aaron was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo, “It was quite bizarre. He obviously felt that he hit the ball. No batsman is going to walk if he didn't feel like he hit the ball."
"But when the umpire was hesitant, there was no real appeal from the fielders; he should've just reviewed it. I don't know why he didn't review it. And of course, in the dressing room, it was quite sad because he is already at an average of 6 (5.50 over the last 7 IPL matches) now. It's appalling.”
Meanwhile, Nick Knight called the whole incident completely confusing. He said if Ishan had hit the ball, he would’ve known for sure.
The umpire looked ready to give it not out, but changed his mind only after seeing the SRH batter walk away. Knight felt the situation could’ve been avoided if Ishan had just waited and let the umpire do his job.

Nick Knight and Manoj Tiwary slam Ishan Kishan for his decision
Nick Knight said on the same show, “I was watching it live, and I reckon I'd know if I hit it. I can't think of an instance where I wouldn't. Bizarre, totally bizarre. The umpire was giving it not out, then he suddenly sees him walking and gives him out... he clearly didn't think it was out. Then, Ishan walks back, and the whole thing gets confusing. Simple solution: just let the umpire make the decision.”
On the other hand, former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary was left stunned by Ishan Kishan’s dismissal and shared his thoughts on social media. The cricket pundit said that he’s eager to hear what Ishan was thinking when he walked off without waiting for the umpire.
Manoj Tiwary posted on X: “Ishan Kishan’s dismissal today against Mumbai Indians?? I’m waiting to hear from Ishan himself. What was he thinking at that time?? Baffling.”
