Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is working hard to win back his spot on the India National Cricket Team. After being dropped from the BCCI’s annual contract list last year, Ishan Kishan is focused on delivering strong performances for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Recently, Ishan was asked to name the player he admires most, but the explosive batter revealed that he never followed just one cricketer. However, he picked some names that are synonymous with the game of cricket, which he grew up watching.

Ishan Kishan calls Virat Kohli his 'favorite'

The left-handed batter said that he looked up to legends like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar when he was a young cricketer. Now, Virat Kohli inspires him the most, as Ishan named the dashing right-handed batter as his current favorite cricketer.

Ishan Kishan was quoted as saying by JioHotstar, “I never had any one favorite player. It was always a bunch of players. When I was 18, it was Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar, sir. Today, my favorite is Virat Kohli.”

After losing BCCI’s central contract and place in the Indian team, Ishan was also released by the Mumbai Indians after a seven-year journey in the IPL. However, the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter was later snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 11.25 crore in the 2025 IPL mega auction.

I got goosebumps after joining SRH, says Ishan Kishan

Ishan, who was the most expensive player for SRH in the mega auction, shared his feelings about joining Sunrisers Hyderabad after spending seven years with Mumbai Indians. He added that it felt special to see everything in orange, and the calm and friendly vibe at SRH surprised him.

Kishan further explained, “I was quite attached to the Mumbai Indians because I was with them for seven years. I got goosebumps after joining SRH; everything was orange. This is a new experience. The atmosphere is completely different from what I was expecting. There’s calmness, clarity, and everyone is very helpful. I am loving it.”

The 26-year-old also shared that he feels at home in the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp and enjoys spending time with Abhishek Sharma, Abhinav Manohar, and Zeeshan Ansari the most during the ongoing IPL 2025. And when it comes to food, biryani is always Ishan’s go-to comfort meal.

Ishan signed off by saying, “It’s always biryani. Wherever I go, if I am feeling good, I order biryani. If I am feeling bad, I order biryani.” Notably, Ishan has so far scored 136 runs in six innings for SRH at a strike rate of 174.35 in the ongoing IPL 2025.

On the other hand, SRH has been struggling badly to get back into the form that helped them make it to the IPL finals last year. They have managed to win only two of their six games so far in the ongoing IPL 2025. SRH will next face MI on April 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
