With multiple responsibilities on his shoulders, Ishan Kishan takes his team one step ahead to claim the marquee domestic trophy, scoring 270 runs off 334 balls.
Ishan Kishan enjoyed his days with the Jharkhand cricket team
After the end of Day 2, Ishan Kishan shared the key moments that turned into a blessing in disguise for him. A few years back, BCCI sent him back to domestic cricket, dropping him from the national cricket team to prove himself as a true spirited cricketer again. Ishan accepted the challenge, instead of breaking down.
The national team selectors were forced to recall the keeper-batter after witnessing his stints with the Jharkhand state cricket team across domestic tournaments during the 2025-26 season. Ishan Kishan captained Jharkhand to claim their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
"I genuinely enjoyed it. I went back, had to grind and work hard for about two years. But sometimes, when we play regularly for India, you just keep playing in a flow. You might be a very good player, which is why you’re playing for India, but your growth stagnates at a certain point,” Ishan described his time with Jharkhand in domestic cricket.
Ishan Kishan motivated himself to do better in domestic cricket
Going back to domestic cricket was nothing less than starting from the beginning for Ishan Kishan. Indian domestic cricket is full with talents acorss the nation. Among all those talents who have been scoring tons of runs for their respective states, Ishan had to show why he deserved to be with the Indian cricket team.
"So when you take a step back and return to domestic cricket, you start from zero again. You start thinking, ‘I need to get even better,’ because today, there are so many players scoring runs. To get back into the team, your only option is to perform much better than them," the 28-year-old explained.
It was the mindset that helped Ishan Kishan to play the 270-run knock
The East Zone captain further explained that he did not change his batting much but put effort into developing his mindset. It was the changed mindset which helped him to convert the start in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final into a 270-run knock.
"You get time to reflect on what you missed earlier, why you couldn’t convert your starts into big scores. The batting doesn’t change that much; it’s just the mindset that changes over time. When you process these things and keep working hard, and then make a comeback, you rarely think about things like ‘I will smash this, I will hit him like that.’ You stay in the moment, taking it one over at a time, or one ball at a time. You remain relaxed and just play,” Ishan added.
