Ishan Kishan to play competitive cricket for the first time in 4 months starting with this tournament
Team India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan left the Indian team ahead of the Test series against South Africa and since then has not been participating in competitive cricket. Rahul Dravid who is currently the head coach of the Indian team openly announced that Ishan Kishan needs to play some sort of cricket to be reconsidered for the Indian team.
However, the wicketkeeper went to Baroda to train for the IPL with teammate Hardik Pandya instead of playing for his state team Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy.
Ishan Kishan missed a golden opportunity to establish himself as a Test player for India as he missed the five-match Test series against England. The selectors gave Dhruv Jurel his maiden Test call-up for the Indian team as a wicketkeeper. India is currently in desperate need of a wicketkeeper-batter as KS Bharat is not giving satisfactory results and Rishabh Pant is injured.
Ishan Kishan impressed everyone in the Test series against West Indies and now he was needed in the team but due to his absence from competitive cricket, the Indian selectors had to snub him.
The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is not happy with some players because of their approach towards red-ball cricket and has communicated to all the players to play for their state in domestic competitions if they are not on the national team’s duty. Only players who are injured and rehabilitating in the NCA are exempted from this.
“In the next few days, all the players will be communicated by the BCCI to play for their state team in the Ranji Trophy, as long as they are not on national duty, with only those who are unfit and recovering at the NCA being granted an exemption. The Board isn’t too happy with certain players already in IPL mode from January,” a source said on February 11.
Ishan Kishan Will Play In The DY Patil Tournament In Mumbai
Ishan Kishan is expected to play in the DY Patil Tournament in Mumbai ahead of IPL 2024 and then he will be playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
A lot will depend on his performance in the IPL as he needs to perform at his best in the upcoming season the Indian Premier League if he has to secure a place in the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup which is scheduled in June this year and will be hosted jointly by West Indies and the United States.
Ishan Kishan made himself unavailable for selection ahead of the Test series against South Africa and since then he has not returned to competitive cricket. He opted out of the series because of mental fatigue after travelling with the Indian team consecutively for almost six to seven months.
Ishan Kishan travelled with the Indian team from the World Test Championship Finals in June 2023 to the South Africa tour in December 2023 without a proper break and he was also not getting enough game time and he was not in the right state of mind.
