India suffered a soul-crushing defeat in the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand by eight wickets and to add further salt to their wounds, their talisman pacer Ishant Sharma suffered a finger injury which might jeopardize his chances of featuring in the upcoming five-match Test series against England

The incident happened during the 45th over of New Zealand’s second innings when Ross Taylor smashed a straight drive off Ishant Sharma.

Although Ishant made a terrific effort to stop what looked like a certain boundary, he ended up injuring his fingers.

The pain was quite evident on Sharma’s face and he soon left the field for treatment.

Eventually, Jasprit Bumrah came in to complete his over.

A day after the WTC final, BCCI’s senior content producer Rajal Arora shared an Instagram story where one can see the middle fingers of Ishant’s bowling hand heavily bandaged.

While Ishant Sharma still has over 6 weeks to recover from the injury,  in case he doesn’t,  Mohammed Siraj could be a straight swap in the playing 11 for the Tests against England.

The BCCI is yet to give an official update on the status of Ishant Sharma’s injury.

As far as the WTC final is concerned, Ishant was the most successful Indian bowler after Mohammed Shami. In 25 overs, Sharma gave away just 48 runs and claimed three crucial wickets
