Team India won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. They achieved three milestones after winning the trophy on March 8, beating New Zealand in the final by 96 runs. The Men in Blue became the first team to win three trophies and back-to-back trophies. Suryakumar Yadav’s side also became the first nation to win the trophy at home.

Now, the players are enjoying their small vacation before joining their respective franchises in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL). Ahead of the IPL team, India's skipper revealed a heated incident in the final between Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell.

Suryakumar Yadav apologised to Daryl Mitchell

Suryakumar Yadav stated that he apologized to the New Zealand batter after Arshdeep Singh struck him with the ball during the 2026 T20 World Cup. The incident happened after Arshdeep was struck with two sixes, and a later ball was dot which went straight to the bowler and he threw it back in anger, which hit Mitchell.

The New Zealand batter went furious after the ball struck him, and Arshdeep walked off without apologizing. SKY went immediately towards the batter and apologised immediately after the match, with Arshdeep and Mitchell sharing a good moment. The match replays also showed the speedster apologizing to Mitchell after Suryakumar’s intervention.

It happens sometimes- Suryakumar Yadav

However, Arshdeep Singh was fined 15% of his match fees as well. Now, in a recent interview with PTI, Suryakumar Yadav opened up about what exactly happened during the match.

Suryakumar Yadav said, PTI, "Heat of the moment mein kabhi kabhi ho jaata hai (It happens sometimes). At that time you don’t fully understand what is happening. But later, I told paaji, that this is not how it happens. He then spoke to Mitchell and it was a light moment."

"He took it in his stride. But it was very important for me to go and tell Daryl Mitchell myself, because as a leader, what example you set on the ground, that is also very important. So I went and told him (Mitchell) the same thing, if Arshdeep did it deliberately, then I am sorry. And even if he did not do it deliberately, I am sorry."

Gautam Gambhir in full support of Arshdeep Singh

The India National Cricket Team head coach, Gautam Gambhir, had opined differently on the matter. The head coach backed Arshdeep for his aggressive attitude and dismissed the need for any apology.

Gambhir believes that these kinds of reactions and actions happen during the high-stakes games, especially after getting hit with two back-to-back boundaries, and said he would welcome more such responses from his players.

He further stated that representing the country with such intensity is always welcomed, and the head coach also praised Arshdeep for his apologies as a kind gesture. He made it clear that it was not necessary to do it, stating that 'there are no friends on the cricket pitch'.

Arshdeep will next be seen at the IPL for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and would like to take the team to the final and win the trophy this time, as they failed to win the title, losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final.
