India opening batter Smriti Mandhana has said that playing a day-night Test match for the country was a dream come true moment for her.

India women’s side went head to head with Australia in a pink-ball Test match last month. Indian batters did a great job smashing 377/8 in the first innings and putting the pressure on Aussies. However, rain played spoilsport and the match ended in a draw.

Smriti Mandhana believes that Test cricket is the best format of the game and she doesn’t mind playing any kind of Test match in challenging conditions. She stated:

Test matches are the best. I would not mind any Tests match whether it be in the day or night, great experience playing in the challenging conditions in England and Australia.”

Mandhana also said that she never thought that she will represent India in a day-night Test match. The 25-year-old said:

Best thing was not to wake up early, jokes aside, we didn’t get much time to get used to it we got only two days. I never thought that I would get a chance to play a Day and Night Test,”

Star opening batter added that it was a unique and great experience playing the Day-night Test for India, as batters don’t usually get the opportunity to remain not out overnight. Mandhana asserted:

“It was a dream come true to play day and night test matches as an Indian player. We do not get much opportunity to be 80 not out overnight so it was a sleepless night for, and I had to restart the other day so it was a unique but a great experience,”

Talking about the Day-night match. Australia was chasing 272 runs in the final session of the final day in Carrara and they lost two early wickets on that day. India was in a dominant position throughout the match but rain spoiled India’s victory plans.

Notably, Smriti Mandhana was awarded the Player of the Match in the Day-night Test match for her sensational 127 runs off 216 balls. Also, that century was her first century in the longest format of the game.
