Superstar leg-spinner Rashid Khan takes a trip down memory lane recalling dismissing MS Dhoni in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2018.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings met at the Wankhede in the first playoff game when Rashid Khan got the better of the CSK skipper. Dhoni lunged forward to push the ball, but was beaten by a quick googly from the leg-spinner; the ball went between his gate to disturb the timber.
It was dream come true moment for Rashid Khan to bag Dhoni’s scalp in a big game considering his prowess against the tweakers.
“I bowled to him, I got his wicket. It was a dream for me to get the wicket of MS Dhoni. You know how good he is against the spinners,” Rashid said while talking to Harsha Bhogle in a video for Cricbuzz
Rashid Khan declines Afghanistan T20I captaincy
Rashid Khan has recently declined the off to captain Afghanistan in the shortest format. The board had once again shuffled their leadership, axing Asghar Afghan as the all-format skipper. Hashmatullah Shahidi replaces Afghan at the helm in Test and ODI side with Rahmat Shah as his deputy. While the T20I captain is not officially announced yet, Rashid Khan will continue as the vice-captain in the shortest format.
He says that he doesn’t want to take the additional responsibility for captaincy now, and wishes to focus solely on his own game.
“I am very much clear in my mind that I am better off as a player. I am good in the role as vice-captain and help the captain wherever I am needed. It’s better for me that I stay away from this position,” Rashid Khan told ESPNcricinfo.
“I want to do well for the team as a player and my performance is a bit more crucial for the team rather than me thinking about different things being a captain. Also, it takes time, and right now the most important thing is the World Cup which is quite near and I feel it is too much for me to have.“I am afraid it might affect my performance for the team which is a key so I am very happy as a player and whatever the decision board and selection committee make I am fully behind it and will appreciate it,” he added.
