Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Dinesh Karthik sends his wishes to speedster Prasidh Krishna for making his ODI debut on Tuesday against England in Pune. Prasidh Krishna’s impressive IPL and the domestic record has earned his maiden India cap.

The pacer played made his IPL debut in 2018 when Dinesh Karthik was the skipper – the wicket-keeper relinquished captaincy mid-season last year to Eoin Morgan. Karthik says that when KKR roped Krishna in their side and put him as a lead pacer, he realized that the lanky speedster’s India debut was inevitable.

“Prasidh, I’m one of the happiest for you for what has happened today. When we picked you in 2018, I had no doubt that the way you bowled, it was a matter of time before you represent the country. The time has come. Go, shine boy. I’m sure you will do a fabulous job. Good luck with everything and I’m sure your international career will be really good,” Dinesh Karthik was quoted by kkr.in as saying.

I think one guy will be a surprise package: Virat Kohli

The Karnataka pacer is known for his high pace and the extra bounce he extracts courtesy of his height. The 25-year-old has picked 23 wickets from 12 matches in the last two seasons of Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 17.09; overall he has snared 81 wickets in 48 List-A games.

Captain Virat Kohli had mentioned last year how impressed he was with the KKR seamer. Kohli reckons having a bowler like Krishna who can bowl fast can be a ‘surprise package’ in the T20 World Cup.

“I think one guy will be a surprise package. Someone who can bowl with pace and bounce. I think Prasidh Krishna has done really well in domestic cricket. It is a great luxury to have this group of bowlers in all formats. Looking at World Cup, we have enough options,” Virat Kohli had said back in January 2020.
