Swashbuckling Australian opener and former SunRisers Hyderabad skipper, David Warner has narrated his horrific experience of the Covid-19 situation in India.

Terming the events in the outside world as ‘terrifying’, David Warner said that seeing people lining up on the streets to create their family members as they traveled to and from the ground was really ‘upsetting’ from a humanitarian point of view.

“I think it really hit home when everyone saw that piece on the TV about what was happening in India with the oxygen. You know, people on the streets lining up to cremate their family members and we did see that a couple of times going to and from the grounds. Open fields and stuff. You know, it was terrifying. And it was just really upsetting from a humanitarian point of view,” David Warner told Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa.

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League was suspended for an indefinite period of time by the BCCI last month following multiple Covid positive cases across four different franchises.

Warner said that the call to suspend the IPL was the right one as it was imperative for everyone to move out of the country once the virus breached the bio-bubble.

He, however, iterated that while the BCCI did their best in staging the competition but maintaining the sanctity of the bio-bubble war always going to be difficult with the tournament taking place across six different cities.

“I think the right decision was taken (to suspend the IPL). which was obviously going to be a challenge once we started moving, getting on and off aircraft. But look, they did their best to try and put it (the IPL) on there and we know in that everyone loves cricket, and half the population would do anything to put a smile on their face and just watch that,” he said.

“It was challenging. We had to get out of there ASAP. We were there (in the Maldives) with other people and they were there for the same reasons — getting out of India, trying to get to their countries as well because pretty much everyone was locked out of their country who had been into India.” added David Warner.
