Virat Kohli’s resignation as India’s captain in all three formats took place seven months ago, yet the subject is still in the headlines. A senior BCCI official clarified the controversial Kohli leadership incident by stating that Virat made the final choice.
After the T20 World Cup in November, the Indian batsman decided to give up the Twenty20 leadership. In December, Rohit Sharma took over as one-day captain.
Virat Kohli has given up the captaincy of the Test team, nearly four months after announcing his decision to resign as India’s T20I team captain. A day after India’s 1-2 Test series loss to South Africa, Kohli makes the unprecedented announcement. Kohli was fired as India’s ODI captain in December.
With a record-breaking victory percentage of 58.82 and a record of 40 victories from 68 games, Kohli retires as India’s most successful Test skipper of all time. This is more than any other captain with at least 10 Tests under their belt, including MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, and Mohammed Azharuddin, who led India in 60, 49, and 47 Tests, respectively.
‘Virat Kohli decided that He doesn’t want to captain’: BCCI official
A senior BCCI official Dhumal clarified the controversial Kohli leadership situation by claiming that Virat made the final decision and that everyone, including the BCCI, is eagerly awaiting the return of the former India skipper to his finest run-scoring form.
“In terms of captaincy, it was entirely his decision. He made the decision that Mujhe ab Nahi Karni hai captaincy (I do not want to be captain). It is viable that someone believes it is best to wait until after the World Cup, but that is just their opinion. But he wanted to leave, and it was entirely his choice. And we honoured it.”
“He has made so many contributions to Indian cricket that everyone on the cricket board looks up to him. We would love to see Virat in action on the field “Dhumal added.
The players now have a lot more of an aggressive mindset because of Virat’s fearless leadership. India has won two consecutive series in Australia under his guidance. His leadership in the IPL has also been strong, although he was unable to lead his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, to victory.
