IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma Should Rest For Last Two Games - Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria suggested that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma should take a rest for the last two T20 International matches against the West Indies as a precautionary measure.

During the third T20I match, Rohit pulled Alzarri Joseph for a boundary towards the fine leg and just after the shot he seemed to carry back pain. Team physios visited the field and after a brief discussion, the Indian captain walked off and retired hurt on 11.

After the game, Rohit was confident to recover for the last two games, as he mentioned in the post-match interview. With Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled in the line in the coming months, Kaneria advised Rohit to consider rest in order to prevent any injury scare for the big events.

“When Rohit Sharma pulled the delivery for a boundary and the way he reacted, as a player, I knew he was in a lot of pain. He should prioritise his fitness and even if it means he needs to rest for the next two games, then it doesn’t matter,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

“India needs Rohit Sharma for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. So even if he rests, there are ample match-winners and captaincy options like Shreyas, Sanju Samson or even Rishabh Pant,” he added. 

India leads the T20I series 2-1 against WI

India won the third T20I on the excellence of Suryakumar Yadav’s batting masterclass. The Mumbai player scored a 44-ball 76, including eight fours and four sixes, batting at 172.73. He set the tone for India to chase 165 and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant played a sensible knock of 33 in 26 balls to finish the proceedings with six balls to spare.

India and West Indies will move to Florida to play the last two T20I matches on August 6 and 7 to complete the five-match series.
