On Sunday, Team India defeated the West Indies by an impressive 88 runs in the fifth and final T20I of the series.
The squad, playing at Lauderhill, Florida, without the majority of its first-team talents, including Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, set a respectable total of 188/7 in 20 overs before dismissing the hosts for 100.
The Windies’ batting order disintegrated, giving India a terrible finish to an already unsatisfactory series as their spinners claimed all 10 wickets.
With the exception of the victory in the second T20I, India won all of the other four games with relatively one-sided margins, raising concerns about the West Indies’ subpar batting performances.
West Indies Players Are Impressive In The IPL: Ravi Shastri
The problems involving the West Indies were thoroughly examined on Sunday by former India head coach Ravi Shastri and Mohammad Kaif. Shastri made the point that the Windies players perform admirably in the Indian Premier League but are unable to translate such appearances into international colours.
Given that Kaif has crossed paths with several West Indies players in the league, the former India coach also inquires about Kaif’s viewpoint on the subject.
“Kaifu, you played IPL for so many years. They play in the IPL and they are so impressive. Toh inka problem kya hai? Vo West Indies ke liye kyun nahi khelte? Have you talked to them?” Shastri asked during his on-air stint on FanCode.
“The issue is that they get a lot of matches to play abroad. They can get fame and money. So that’s the difference. I also think that their former cricketers weren’t successful in convincing these players (to give time to the West Indies)
“When Pollard was the captain, he did a great job. He made a brilliant team. They had Russell, Bravo, and Simmons. Pollard convinced them to play for the Windies”, Kaif answered.
WI will next face NZ in a series.
