West Indies are known for playing an aggressive style of cricket in T20Is, but according to former cricketer Parthiv Patel, they haven’t been able to live up to expectations lately.
He discussed how West Indies’ recent performances have been unimpressive while speaking on Cricbuzz on Monday. He said that following yet another series defeat in the shortest format, the Men in Maroon should “pull up their socks”.
There’s Always Some Drama Wherever They Are Playing: Parthiv Patel
“One needs that flair that West Indies usually give you. There’s always some drama wherever they are playing. Every time they go out there and play that different brand of cricket. They are far away from that,” Parthiv Patel said.
West Indies was anticipated to play better in the T20Is against India after losing the ODI series against them by a score of 3-0. But throughout the course of the five games, the hosts only achieved one single victory and fell behind 4-1.
It’s important to note that West Indies lost all three games of their home ODI series against Bangladesh last month.
You Got To Go Back To Your Basics If You Are Not Picking Wrist Spinners: Parthiv Patel
During the just-finished T20I series, West Indian hitters had trouble getting going against the Indian spinners. Notably, spin bowlers claimed all 10 of the team’s wickets in the last game.
Before hitting the nets, Parthiv Patel advised hitters to examine footage of spin bowling. He believed that focusing on the fundamentals may also be helpful
He added: “If you are not picking wrist spinners, you may try and watch a few videos before going to the nets to try and pick up some clues and go back to the old school way of playing with the spin and not against the spin. If you’re not picking it up at all, you’ve got to go back to your basics.”
On Sunday, August 7, the West Indies lost the fifth T20I after being bowled out for a total of 100 runs. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav both claimed three wickets in the match, while Ravi Bishnoi took four wickets overall.
