Former India cricketer Vivek Razdan feels that picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t feel right. Razdan feels that the team is blocking a spot for Karthik. Dinesh Karthik is the new finisher for India in the shortest format.

After his impressive show in IPL 2022, Karthik made a comeback to the national team. He always bats in the lower order, mostly arriving on the field in the last 5 overs. He has also played a few incredible knocks down the order in the last few series.

You Are Blocking A Spot For Dinesh Karthik: Vivek Razdan

While speaking to Fan Code, Vivek Razdan said that picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t feel nice.

“Picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t seem quite right to me. You are blocking a spot for Dinesh Karthik. You tell me who among Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya can’t do that job of a finisher?,” Vivek Razdan said on Fan Code.

“Finisher’s role is one such that it is hard to be consistent. Every time you get in, you should be able to make an impact that will help the team. It works both ways, the bowlers are clever and they try to force you to hit into the wind as much as possible. That makes it all the more tougher,” the cricketer-turned commentator further said.

During the IND vs WI T20I series, Dinesh Karthik played all 5 games against West Indies. The right-handed batsman scored 66 runs in 4 innings at an average of 22.0 and strike rate of 132. He played an incredible knock in the 1st T20I, where he slammed a quickfire 41 runs off 19 balls to take the team’s total to a brilliant 191. He also won the man of the match award in the game.

However, Karthik was not much impressive in the other games, scoring 7, 6, and 12. India defeated West Indies in the T20I series 4-1. India won the 1st T20I by 68 runs, 3rd T20I by 7 wickets, 4th T20I by 59 runs, and 5th T20I by 88 runs. India’s only loss came in the 2nd T20I by 5 wickets.
