Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the team following a thumping win in the fifth and final T20I against the West Indies on Sunday.
Rohit, who sat out of the match to give a chance to Ishan Kishan, spoke to the team about their performance on the Caribbean tour. He said the plan to play with an aggressive mindset was well executed by everyone and it pleased him the most.
“It’s not an end of the road but a consistent mindset will be needed. We have often talked about what we wanted to do, how we wanted to play. It’s one thing talking about it.”
“And another thing going out and trying to do. Trying to do it is what I felt ( is important) and everyone tried to do that. Most of us actually went and did it. So that to me was very, very pleasing,” Rohit said while talking to the team after the series win.
“I really want to appreciate that all of us are buying that thought” – Rohit Sharma
India has changed its playstyle in recent times and it was visible in the white-ball tour of England and the recently concluded tour of the West Indies. They have shed their inhibitions and left behind the conservative mindset they carried which hindered their progress, especially in the T20Is.
“So we are not one or two guys who won games for us but all of us did that. So to me, that was very, very pleasing to see. Firstly, I really want to appreciate that all of us are buying that thought, and then going out there and actually doing it.”
“So it takes a lot. It’s not easy, trust me it’s not easy, but we’ve tried it and succeeded. On most occasions we pretty much achieved it. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for us. We will continue to keep topping up the little aspects of the game,” Rohit added.
Rohit and co will now shift their focus to the Asia Cup 2022 which will begin at the end of this month. They will play a 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe prior to the tournament.
