Tricky wicket, when you come here you expect it to be really fluent - Pat Cummins

Being invited to bat first in the match, the SRH batting unit struggled on a slow Wankhede track and registered a below-par total of 162/5 on the board, with Abhishek Sharma (40) and Heinrich Klaasen (37) being the top two run-getters.

Defending the total, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked wickets at regular intervals and took the game deep. Pat Cummins picked up three wickets, Eshan Malinga got two wickets, and Harshal Patel bagged one wicket as SRH allowed MI to complete the run chase in 18.1 overs.

Speaking after the match, SRH skipper Pat Cummins blamed the pitch for their loss to MI. He explained:

"It wasn't the easiest wicket. Few runs short, we would have liked a couple more with the bat. Tricky wicket, when you come here you expect it to be really fluent and fast, just wasn't that."

They bowled really well, shut down a lot of our hitting areas - Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins further lauded Mumbai Indians (MI) bowlers for doing a good job in the match and said that they also gave a good crack with the ball. He said:

"They bowled really well, shut down a lot of our hitting areas. I thought we had all our bases covered, with 160 you feel like you are a little bit short. We gave it a good crack with the ball. We thought we needed wickets, we had plenty of death bowling, we knew the impact player would bowl 1-2 overs that's why we went with Rahul."

Pat Cummins also acknowledged the importance of playing well away from home in the IPL to achieve success as a team.

"You have got to play well away from home to make the final, unfortunately it hasn't clicked so far this season, we have a short break and we go again. Every game we talk about assessing, the boys did well to get through the powerplay and there wasn't reckless hitting, next game is at home and we know that venue pretty well," Pat Cummins stated.

How did SRH perform in the previous IPL match against MI?

In their previous match against the Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a poor outing at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6, 2024, and they suffered a defeat by seven wickets.

Batting first, SRH posted a decent total of 173/8 on the board. Travis Head gave the visitors a flying start with 48 off 30 balls, but they struggled to capitalize on it.

Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Abdul Samad, and Marco Jansen all fell cheaply, and from 90/2, SRH slipped to 136/8 before Pat Cummins’ quickfire 35* runs gave the innings a good finish.

With the ball, SRH made a sensational start. Marco Jansen and Pat Cummins removed Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma while Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Naman Dhir, reducing MI to 31/3 within five overs.

However, from thereon, nothing went their way as Suryakumar Yadav launched a counter-attack and smashed an exceptional ton to finish the run-chase alongside Tilak Varma in 17.2 overs.
