India were at the receiving end of a heartbreaking loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue were thrashed by Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by 6 wickets. The loss hurt because they played like champions throughout the tournament but tumbled in the final.
India entered the final on the back of 10 consecutive games and it seemed that everything was in their favour. However, Australia outplayed them with both bat and ball. The Rohit Sharma-led succumbed to pressure and lost the 10th consecutive ICC tournament.
After the defeat, players were completely shattered and were in tears. The Indian players looked in utter disbelief but they were lifted up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who went inside the dressing room. The PM of India met each and every player and told them to be positive and be proud of how they have played in the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav admitted that they all were disappointed after the loss and also thanked fans for supporting him. He also talked about what PM Narendra Modi told them. Speaking in a video posted by BCCI, he explained:
“As you all know it’s been 4-5 days since the World Cup concluded, we are disappointed just like everyone. The support that we got from fans in India and all over the world was fantastic. I just want to say at the end of the day it’s sport which makes us learn a lot including how to move forward. The love which you guys have shown over the year, keep that maintained.
“As the World Cup got over and we were in dressing room, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi came there, met everyone and motivated us. He said ‘it’s a sport and it happens and there are ups and downs in life. You should take this in your stride’. Yes, it’ll take time to sink in but his 5-6 minutes motivation in the dressing room, meeting everyone that’s itself a big thing.”
